Celebrating Alan Blaikley’s 70th birthday in Moggiona
April 2010
March 2010 was notable for the gathering together in Moggiona for the first time simultaneously of all the owners of Casa Teresina as a way of marking the 70th birthday of the original owner, Alan Blaikley. Alan purchased the cottage on an inspired whim back in 1987, after one of the earliest of many excellent lunches at Il Cedro. In so doing he brought an important new dimension into the lives of the Blaikley family and their offshoots and friends.
The highpoint of the celebrations was a magnificent Sunday lunch at Il Cedro, delivered by the Tassinis with all their usual warmth and flair. We also enjoyed revisiting the frescoes by Piero della Francesca and Vasari’s house in Arezzo together, reminding ourselves of all that we love about this particular part of Tuscany. A collective meal at I Tre Baroni served as another confirmation of what is so special about Moggiona.
Alan also celebrated his 70th year by setting up a website which outlines his remarkable songwriting partnership with Ken Howard from the 1960s onwards. To find out more, visit www.kenhoward-alanblaikley.com.
